Recently electric shock injuries in Belarus have become more frequent when fishing with rods.

Thus, on June 21st, 2009, in the Mozyr district of the Gomel region a case was registered when a 21 year-old touched an overhead power line with a rod which caused burns on 40% of his body. Two fishermen who were close to him also got injuries of varying severity. On July 5th, 2009, in the Bykhov district of the Mogilyov region a 28 year-old was electrocuted during fishing (during an attempt to cast a telescopic rod he for a short time touched an overhead power line).

With regard to the mentioned tragic cases the State Inspectorate on Wildlife Protection under the President of the Republic of Belarus together with the directorate of the state energy and gas monitoring and labor safety of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Belarus warns about the danger of electric shock injuries and necessity to observe safety measures and asks to exercise extreme caution while fishing near power lines.
